Kenyans will be required to carry their identification documents to escape police swoops during the upcoming Global Entrepreneurship Summit, local newspaper The Star reports.
According to the reports, the Kenya government plans to deploy close to 15,000 police officers in Nairobi and its environs who are expected to conduct swoops in the areas.
The officers have been instructed to arrest any person who does not have their national identity card and is found loitering in the streets, especially at night.
On Tuesday, the US issued a travel alert cautioning its citizens to be on high alert before, during and after Obama’s visit, saying that his visit was likely to attract terror attack.
President Barack Obama is expected in the country on July 25 and 26 and will alongside Kenya’s president, Uhuru Kenyatta, address the Sixth Global Entrepreneurship Summit.
They will also hold talks at State House on security, trade between Kenya and the US, and stability in the region.
Meanwhile, the highly anticipated visit to Kenya by US President Barack Obama has seen the capital city Nairobi bustling with activity.
City officials have been sprucing up streets and sidewalks, ahead of the visit. But some Kenyans are skeptical about the importance attached to Obama’s visit.
