Palmer-Buckle laments the quality of debates in Parliament
The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Reverend Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, has expressed disappointment over the quality of debates that go on in Ghana’s Parliament.
According to him, the low level and overly partisan nature of parliamentary debates makes one wonder the need for voting during elections.
“The quality of discussion that goes on in parliament is not worth my voting for anybody. Once or twice I have had to ask somebody; is that the reason why we vote you there?
“We want you to go there and promise us that you are moving the nation forward instead of this political equalization that goes on there,” the priest stated at an event in Accra on Thursday.
He cited the specific case of the parliamentary discussions on the Nayele cocaine scandal that rocked the nation some months ago as one of the most disappointing.
The Archbishop said the nature of deliberations that are held in parliament appear as though the MPs are more interested in politics than addressing the substantive challenges that confront the nation.
