Petty traders denied access to Kejetia as construction works begin

Petty traders numbering thousands who for decades have made the Kejetia Bus terminal the place to earn their daily bread were this morning locked out of the place.
The sprawling trading hub was fenced off around midnight in an operation supervised by both the military and the police under the authority of the KMA. The traders who went there early morning learnt with shock that the place had now become a no-go area despite an injunction being sought by them at the court.
There was no official from the KMA on site to answer questions when our news team visited the place early this morning but the traders some of who were in a helpless state, wept openly while others also rained curses on the authorities.
Some of the traders recounted their harrowing experiences in separate interviews with our news team.
Later our news team were at the Race Course to find out how well the place has been developed but learnt that despite several assurances from the KMA that the place had been put in good shape the opposite was encountered.
Not enough has been done to make the place habitable.
Only a small area had been cleared with the rest of the marshy terrain overgrown with bushes. There was nothing like a toilet or a changing room. Really, the traders are in for very hard times.
