Man carrying submachine gun, ammunition arrested

The Ashanti regional SWAT unit have arrested a man for illegal possession of a sub machine gun with 21 rounds of ammunition.
Kwabena Kwarteng alias Mataata, a resident of Old Tafo Kumasi, a self-styled business man and a member of the defunct community police unit, was arrested at Old Tafo Zongo while riding a red unregistered Honda motor bike with a black bag hanging on his back.
Police were on patrol when they spotted the individual’s bag and became suspicious. Upon stopping him and searching the bag, they found one Kettle Sub 2000 rifle, together with 21 rounds of ammunition.
When his residence was searched at Old Tafo Zongo, two live rounds of ammunition of the same kind as those earlier found on him were retrieved, together with a military camouflage trouser and five mobile phones suspected to have been stolen. He was charged with the offence and put before court.
