Hundreds march in "Ye bre" Kumasi demo

Hundreds of Ghanaians from all walks of life have turned out for today’s “Ye bre” demonstration in Kumasi.
At about 6:00 am in the morning people from all walks of life within the Ashanti region and beyond trooped in with placards which had inscriptions such as “Drop that John”, “Master of dumsor tactics 5-4-1”, among others, to register their displeasure over the power crisis confronting the nation.
The demonstration, which is arranged to go through main areas in the metropolis including Abrepo junction, Bantama, Adum, the Asafo Interchange, Labour, Alabaah, Dr Opoku and finally Abi’s Park, was fronted by key NPP parliamentarians.
Traffic in many areas of Kumasi came to a standstill to make way for the heaving crowd.
Some of the demonstrators brought along visual aids to show how “dumsor” is affecting their lives. One seamstress brought along a basket of cloths and said the power crisis had left her unable to sew and make a living. One man carried an extra large lit candle. Others brought along electrical goods, such as rice cookers, radios and TVs, damaged by the demonstration.
Ashanti regional command provided a heavy police presence with up to 500 policemen deployed to ensure safety.
Speaking to Kessben Television news, ASP Mohammed Tanko, PRO for the Ashanti regional police command, said they were taking a non-confrontational posture and had deployed personnel at key points along the route to control the demonstration.
MP for Ejisu Hon Owusu Aduomi expressed his displeasure at the current government over the bad state of our energy sector saying many businesses are collapsing because of the government’s inability to solve the problem.
He said winning the 2016 election because of dumsor will not be easy.
