Consumers shocked by January electricity bills
Electricity of Ghana customers (ECG) in Kumasi have expressed shock at what they describe as “outrageous” electricity bills issued to them for the month of January 2015.
Taking into consideration the frequency of interruptions to the power supply to their homes, especially over the last month, the consumers said they found the high tariffs unacceptable.
Speaking to Kessben TV news, some of the aggrieved consumers chastised the ECG for exploiting them. Others said the high bills were an act of “open robbery” by the ECG.
“This is too much for us, you (ECG) don’t give us light and you come up with such huge amount. What do they expect us to do, and where do we get money to pay such bills? We don’t even get light to do business,” said one irate consumer.
Irregular power supply has been described as the top-most constraint to the growth of businesses in Ghana.
