In Terms Of Integrity, Nana Addo Is Indestructible – Kweku Baako

The Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper has described as redundant the writ filed by former Supreme Court Judge Justice Francis Kpegah who is accusing Ghana’s opposition leader, Nana Akufo-Addo, of impersonation.
Malik Kweku Baako Jnr described the writ as a pathetic “comic relief” resorted to by the learned judge to ease the tension and stress brought about by the shortage of gas, power and water crises in the country.
Justice Kpegah claims he has evidence that the presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party in the 2012 elections, Nana Akufo-Addo, has been impersonating one W.E.D Akufo-Addo – who was called to the English Bar, (Middle Temple) in the United Kingdom on the 22 July, 1971 and on the Roll of Lawyers in Ghana as No.1190.
He said his investigations indicate that Nana Akufo-Addo’s name was not in the Roll of Lawyers in Ghana and he could, therefore, not hold himself out as a lawyer.
Justice Kpegah is asking an Accra High Court to prohibit the NPP leader from calling himself a lawyer and stop his chambers, Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co from representing people in court.
Even before the case will be heard, Malik Kweku Baako Jnr said on Peace FM’s morning show programme “Kokrokoo” that the charges were “infantile piece of nonsense” targeted at tarnishing the reputation of a man whose integrity is beyond reproach.
He said the charges by the judge are nothing but “recycled”, “discredited” and “redundant” pieces of information which will go nowhere.
Citing a similar allegation by former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the Crusading Guide editor said there had been a consistent crusade by elements within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to run down Nana Akufo-Addo.
Chronicling the cocaine allegations, weed allegations, allegations of educational fraud etc raised against the NPP leader in the run up to the 2008 and 2012 general elections, Baako Jnr said: “I don’t know why people have refused to see that in terms of integrity, Nana Addo is indestructible. You may not like him for one or two reasons and that is natural. He himself does not expect everybody to like him. But like him or not, in terms of his political and professional career his integrity is indestructible.”
He said Nana Akufo-Addo remains peerless in Ghana’s law history and has been cited more than 64 times in Ghana’s law reports for winning landmark cases, four of which were won with Justice Kpegah presiding as judge.
Kweku Baako Jnr. said the ineptitude with which the good judge is going about the case makes him wonder the kind of judge he was, when he was on the bench.
Private legal practitioner, Egbert Faibille Jnr., who called into the show wondered how anybody will draw the conclusion that Nana Akufo-Addo’s name is not in Ghana’s Roll of Lawyers and therefore cannot be said to be a lawyer.
He said Nana Akufo-Addo, like many of his contemporaries in the NDC eliminated his first name, William, but that does not change the fact that he is the same person whose name was found in the Roll of Lawyers as W.E.D Akufo-Addo.
Fred Agbenyo, a member of the NDC who was also on the show said it was a bit surprising how anybody will claim that Nana Akufo-Addo is not a qualified lawyer.
He said given the rich background of opposition leader, it must take extra effort for Justice Kpegah to prove his case in court.
