Man killed as elephants invade Northern Region community

One person has been trampled to death by elephants in the Upper East Region community of Garu Timpani after elephants invaded the area.
An eyewitness said about eight elephants entered the town and crushed mud houses and killed Issiku Tangari.
“As at now the body is just covered. They (the elephants) stepped on him and all his intestines have been removed. He has been destroyed as if they used cutlass to cut him…The body has been destroyed,”  the eyewitness told Joy News.
Residents are reportedly fleeing the area in fear.
Although the residents of Garu Timpani say they are unsure where the animals may be coming from, the eyewitness said he suspects they may have come from Nyakpanduri or Paga – all close to Ghana’s border with Burkina Faso.
Police have been deployed to the village to bring the situation under control.
