Man Utd launch mega deal for Hummels

Man United are set to make a big money move for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels after missing out on Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen.
The Gunners centre back is on his way to Barcelona after his dream move to United collapsed this week.
Chris Smalling was wanted as part of the deal for Vermaelen, but Old Trafford chiefs refused to sanction the money plus player deal, leaving the Belgium international to join Barca instead.
The failure to land Vermaelen means Louis Van Gaal is now set to launch a big money bid for German World Cup winner Mats Hummels instead.
United have been tracking Hummels for several weeks and are poised to make a bid of around £20m for the Borussia Dortmund defender.
The Dutchman is a huge fan of the 25-year-old Germany star, who helped his country win the World Cup in Brazil.
The new united boss plans to play a 3-5-2 formation at Old Trafford and wanted Hummels to play a key role in that.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger made it clear the club’s preference was to sell Vermaelen. abroad, rather than to a domestic rival, and they have got their wish.
Club captain Vermaelen, who joined from Ajax in 2009, made 21 appearances for the Gunners last season.
