Voter registration met with apathy

The limited voters’ registration exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC) is experiencing a low turn-out.
The exercise which started on Monday is aimed at registering those who turned18 after 2012 and those who could not register for one reason or another.
Registration centres in the two largest metropolises, Accra and surrounding areas, and Kumasi were sparse, despite the fact that the key target, the youth, are mostly on school holidays and should therefore have been out in their numbers.
In an interview with Today, an assistant registration officer at Osu Blogodo registration centre, Mr Robert Boahene attributed the low turn out to lack of publicity and education on the part of the Electoral Commission.
The exercise is meant to close on Wednesday, August 13.
