German ‘first lady’ officiates Canada vs Ghana opener

FIFA has appointed referee Bibiana Steinhaus to lead German trio to officiate the Official Opening Match of the seventh edition of the 2014 U-20 Women’s World Cup between Ghana and hosts Canada set for the Toronto National Soccer Stadium at midnight Tuesday.
Steinhaus often called the “First Lady” of German referees, is a 35-year old policewoman and holds the record as the first female referee in the men’s professional football league – the Bundesliga.
She has officiated in two previous U-20 competitions (in 2008 and 2010) as well as the finals of the 2011 FIFA Women’s
World Cup.
Fellow Germans Katrin Rafalski and Marina Wozniak will be running the lines when the Black Princesses seek to upstage the hosts with a famous win while Katalin Kulcsar from Hungary serves as the fourth official.
