Woyome ordered by Supreme Court to refund GH¢51.2m

Businessman and politician Alfred Agbesi Woyome has today, by a Supreme Court unanimous decision, been ordered to refund GH¢51.2million to government.
The Supreme Court had previously ruled in favour of former Attorney General Martin Amidu and directed two firms, Isofoton and Waterville, to pay back monies paid out to them in judgment debt.
It said the contracts which formed the basis for the claims by the two companies did not exist in law because they had not been ratified by Parliament as required by law.
According to the court, the contract upon which Woyome made and received the claim was in contravention to Article 181 (5) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which requires such contracts to be laid before and approved by Parliament.
Today, judges ruled that Woyome also had no valid contract to warrant being paid any amount by the state in judgment debt.
