Gov't apologises for traffic jam during ECOWAS summit

Government has apologized to drivers in Accra for the inconveniences caused by the traffic jam as a result of Friday’s ECOWAS meeting.
The nation’s capital came to a standstill as about 100 Heads of State and senior government officials from the West African sub-region descended on the capital.
President John Dramani Mahama, who is the Chair of ECOWAS, summoned the region’s leaders to discuss the current security crisis in Nigeria and the threat of insurgent militant group, Boko Haram.
Speaking on Radio Gold’s current affairs programme, Alhaji and Alhaji Saturday, Presidential Staffer, Dr Clement Apaak, said the government regretted any inconvenience caused due to the event.
“It is significant that we apologize for any fallout or any unintended pressure that may have come to the good people of this country as a result of the event that we all agree was very important.
“…Anyone who knows the nature of our President and this government would know that this was not intended but sometimes situations occur and we just have to accept them for what they are and then learn from those experiences as a way of putting in place mechanisms,” he explained.
He said that although the event caused clogged up traffic in the capital, the turn out was good, adding that the emergency ECOWAS meeting was worthwhile.
