Mikel Arteta Would Not Have Cristiano Ronaldo At Arsenal, Says Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere does not believe that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.

Ronaldo is widely expected to leave United in the January transfer window following his interview with Pierce Mogan.

In the interview, Ronaldo took aim at United’s owners and also said that he did not respect manager Erik ten Hag.

It is not clear where Ronaldo will go next but Wilshere does not expect it to be to the Emirates Stadium..

The ex-Gunners midfielder initially explored the potential positive side of signing Ronaldo.

Wilshere began: “I still think that he would bring something for the younger players to look at, [for them to] see how he lives, see how he does things.

“I still think there’s some benefit from having him.”

Bent then interjected to say: “You wouldn’t take him at Arsenal though, no chance. With what Arteta’s building now, you’d not take him.”

Wilshere continued: “I don’t think Mikel would have him.”

After being asked whether he would sign Ronaldo if he were in charge at Arsenal, Wilshere took a long pause before replying: “No.”

Wilshere seemed a little torn on the subject though as he added: “I don’t think he’s bad. Obviously what he has done is really bad but he doesn’t have a track record of that, does he? He stayed at Madrid for years.”

Radio presenter Andy Goldstein, who is a United fan, then chimed in to say: “But you can’t throw your toys out of the pram like that.”

In conclusion, Wilshere said: “No you can’t… unless you’re Ronaldo.”
