Black Stars Overtake Brazil In Latest FIFA Ranking

Ghana got a massive confidence boost on Thursday when the Black Stars moved above world football giants Brazil in the latest FIFA rankings, just one day before they play Sudan in a crucial World Cup qualifier.
Ghana have moved up one place in the global rankings for national team leaving the Black Stars in the 21st position. This means the Black Stars, who play Sudan on Friday in the qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, overtake former world champions, Brazil.
With their point build up gaining fourteen more, Ghana now has 887 points, thus 15 better than Brazil, the host of next year’s World Cup.
Kwesi Appiah’s team are still ranked second on the African continent behind Ivory Coast with Mali in third place. This was after FIFA took into account the results of 30 friendlies up to 2 June with the results of the World Cup qualifiers this week to be included in the next edition.
There was no change within the top four from last month’s as champions, Spain hold onto the number one spot ahead of Germany, Argentina and Croatia.
According to FIFA, the upcoming FIFA Confederations Cup and the latest round of qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil will ensure plenty of movement in the next edition of the FIFA Ranking.
The results of 30 friendlies up to 2 June have been taken into account for the current edition of the FIFA Ranking, with the results of the FIFA World Cup qualification matches on 4 June to be included in the next edition.
Ghana will play Sudan and Lesotho away and wins will shoot them up next month. Ivory Coast are Africa’s best side as they are ranked 13th in the world.
