BNI arrest NPP former Chairman?

A former NPP Chairman for the Ayawaso West Wougon constituency, Michael Omari Wadie is suspected to be in the grips of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

Reports indicate he was picked up by officials of the BNI on Monday at the Kotoka International Airport on arrival from the United Kingdom.

The BNI has not assigned reasons but unconfirmed reports indicated that Omari Wadie was arrested in connection with some nude pictures circulating on the social networking sites suggesting President John Mahama’s alleged external love affairs.

It will be recalled that NDC group calling itself the Coalition of Protection of Individual Liberties and Constitutional Rights (COPCOR) called for Omari Wadie’s arrest.

The group’s Chairman, Abraham Ferguson Jnr. in a press statement alleged, “The picture which has been splashed on social media platforms is believed to have come from Nigeria but was doctored with the sole aim of ridiculing President Mahama to suit the political agenda of Mr. Wadie and the NPP.”

But a member of the NPP Young Patriots, Hopeson Adoye in an interview with Citi news condemned Omari Wadie’s alleged arrest by the BNI.

He said the nation was sitting on a time bomb and cautioned the BNI and its allied bodies against what he described as “selective arrest in the country.”
Hopeson Adoye warned that the BNI’s actions could create unnecessary tension in the country.

According to him, persons believed to be NDC were also circulating nude pictures about the NPP’s 2012 flag bearer, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Ado on the social media networks.

He challenged the national security operatives to focus on curtailing what he termed “The needless killing of people in Kumasi and other parts of the country” and stop creating unnecessary tension in the country.

He continued saying, “We want to tell the BNI that the criminals on our streets who are terrorizing the people of this nation killing innocent people and stealing their properties; they should focus their attention on that and leave Omari Wadie alone.”

Hopeson Adoye gave the BNI two hours ultimatum to release Omari Wadie to avoid any possible besiege of the BNI offices by NPP supporters and Omari Wadie’s sympathizers.

“We are just giving the BNI two hours and if we don’t hear of him we will mass up at the BNI offices and make sure that they release him because we cannot tolerate the situation anymore.”
