KMA, transport union inspect temporary Kejetia lorry park

The Kumasi mayor together with a team from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Ghana Private Road Transport Unit (GPRTU) today inspected the new lorry park for the vehicles which will be relocated from Kejetia.
The 40,000 square kilometer new lorry park has toilet facilities, two offices, 18 sheds for passengers, police posts and street lights.
Speaking to Kessben Television News, Kumasi Mayor Hon Kojo Bonsu expressed his gratitude towards the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his contribution towards the development of the Ashanti region, adding that it was the king who released the land for temporary use as a lorry park.
He further thanked President John Dramani Mahama for his infinite love for development of the country. The mayor could not hide his zeal for the reconstruction of the Kejetia Market and said he is poised to undertake the project come what may.
The Ashanti regional chairman of the GPRTU, Aaron Osei  Boakye,  lauded the new lorry park project and pleaded with the mayor to increase police presence at the new lorry park and further called for the increment of the number of toilet facilities.
Construction of a new market at Kejetia has resulted in running battles between the Mayor and the traders, who are against relocation of the market. The traders fear that they will not get stalls in the areas where they formerly traded, leading to loss of custom.
