Gov’t Hands Over 2,000 More Laptops To UG For One Million Coders Programme
Total laptops to University of Ghana now 2,500 as digital skills drive intensifies
The Government has handed over an additional 2,000 laptops to the University of Ghana to support the implementation of the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP).
The donation brings the total number of laptops supplied to the university under the initiative to 2,500.
The handover ceremony was held at the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP).
“A Major Investment in Ghana’s Digital Future”
Speaking at the event, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, described the initiative as a major investment in Ghana’s digital future.
He said the laptops will enable students to acquire practical skills in coding, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics and software development.
“These tools are not for consumption alone. We expect to see solutions, applications, and businesses coming out of this,” the Minister stated.
About the One Million Coders Programme
According to the Minister, the OMCP seeks to equip one million Ghanaians with industry-relevant digital skills.
The goal is to improve employability, drive innovation and support national economic transformation.
Mr. George urged beneficiaries to use the laptops to build innovative solutions and businesses rather than merely consume digital content.
The One Million Coders Programme is part of government’s broader agenda to position Ghana as a digital hub and prepare the youth for jobs of the future.
