We want to come home – Stranded GETFUND students in the UK declare

Some Ghanaian students receiving tuition in the United Kingdom under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) scholarship programme in the United Kingdom (UK) have indicated that they want to return home.

According to the students, UK authorities and hostel owners have unleashed debt collectors on them to retrieve unpaid fees.

The stranded students are unable to pay their rent because their stipends have not been paid to them by GETFUND.

Speaking to Citi News one of the stranded students under the GETFUND scholarship in the University Of Salsord, Manchester, Kofi Adzroe indicated that he can’t access the library now because he doesn’t have money to renew his card.

“My accommodation is in arrears so I sneak in and out of my room because now they have handed me over to debt collectors. I wish I had the opportunity to come back home” he lamented.

According to him, they have been denied the right to speak to the Ghana Commissioner in the UK.
