We will solve power challenges soon – K.T. Hammond

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy has given the assurance that the challenges being faced by the stakeholders in the energy sector in Ghana, will soon be resolved.

The Committee on Thursday summoned the Volta River Authority (VRA), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), GRIDCO and the Energy Commission to answer questions on the recent power crisis the country is facing.

The summons was also to enable the Committee find out the problems within the sector and what measures to take to address them.

A ranking member of the committee, K.T. Hammond speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday stated that when the investigation of the committee is completed, the findings and possible solutions will be made public.

“When we finish, we will let the good people of Ghana know what it that we have been doing and what it is that they intend to do about it and when is the crisis going to come to an end.”

The Adanse Asokwa MP noted that there “seems to be some contradictions in what each person has said and so we need to get everything into perspective so we know what exactly is going on.”

He added however, “we’ve all been talking about having to expand on the capacity base of the country so investments would have to come to expansion and investments in the fullness of time but what we believe and what is happening is that there is a situation which needs immediate solution and it does not require intensive capital investment.”
