Peace Match: Military & Prison Officers Trade Punches

A peace match between the Military and officials of the Prison Services in Yendi in the Northern Region turned sour and ended up in a fight on Saturday.
The scuffle broke out after the referee of the final football match awarded a penalty against the Military team after a player for Prisons Service was fouled.
According to the Assemblyman for Gagbeni Electoral Area in Yendi, Abubakari Zakariah, the Military team and their supporters raised objections to the referee’s decision which led to an argument and later in the exchange of fisticuffs.
He also stated that the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, Issa Zakaria who organized the peace match failed to do enough consultation before organizing the match amongst the security services.
“The Municipal Chief Executive organized a peace march for the security in Yendi without consultation from assembly members in Yendi but it turned into a fight match between the Military and the Prison Officers and the game couldn’t end successfully.”
He added that “if he had consulted the assembly members, we would have told him how we usually organize these things. Before you organize it, you have to do an underground work before you organize a football match for them.”
