Wereko-Brobbey’s Statement Is “Senseless” – AFAG

Chairman of the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), Dr. Ayew Afriyie has described as “senseless and reckless”, a statement by Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey, condemning the New Patriotic Party for boycotting upcoming by-elections in the Akatsi-South and Buem constituencies.
The party has indicated it will not contest the impending Akatsi and Buem by-elections slated for February 5 and 26, respectively.
According to Communications Director Nana Akomea, the decision is intended to help the party focus on the suit the NPP has filed against the EC and president Mahama challenging the results of the 2012 presidential elections. He noted, “it will be illogical on our part to take part in elections to be supervised by the very body we have sued in court.”
However, leading member of the party, Dr. Wereko-Brobbey has described the NPP’s reasons for boycotting the two by-elections as ‘illogical and nonsensical’, prompting the very sharp response from the AFAG chairman that the elder statesman has failed to live up to expectation.
Speaking on Dea Me hunu on Adom FM and Asempa FM Wednesday, Dr. Afriyie said, the former Volta River Authority Boss should have used other avenues within the party to put his concerns across, rather than using the media.
Meanwhile, Central Regional Director of Communications for the NDC, Bernard Allottey Jacobs is predicting more of such cracks within the NPP, if they fail to heed to the counsel of Dr. Wereko-Brobbey.
Mr. Allotey Jacobs urged the NPP to rather focus on the 2016 general elections.
