We are not rushing to court – Ayikoi Otoo

Contrary to earlier expectations that the NPP will start legal proceedings by Friday, Citi News has gathered that the party’s legal team will not be rushing to the courts just yet.

In an interview with Citi News Chairman of the NPP’s Constitutional Committee and Former Attorney General, Mr. Ayikoi Otoo, noted that a lot of processes went into filing such a case in court.

“It is not a criminal matter where, for example, Kennedy Agyapong has been arrested and presented before court and then you just go there and start talking. The position is this. Before you go to court you must do your pleading. We are talking about presenting a petition. What will be the content of the petition, what will be the ground for asking the release that you are seeking?”

According to Lawyer Ayikoi Otoo, despite taking a decision to go to court: “You need to gather the evidence, write out your petition, and verify it with affidavits and then go and file. They have to file the petition, they have to respond. File and answer and then we look at what issues arise. In law we say ‘he who affirms must prove’, but if I say something and the person does not deny then there is no need for me to recall evidence.”
