We will not allow anyone to cheat us – Anthony Karbo
New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the Lawra constituency, Anthony Abayifa Karbo has stated that the party will work to ensure that it is not cheated in the upcoming December election.
Speaking to Citi News in response to reports of the outbreak of violence in Ashtown in Kumasi on Thursday, Mr. Karbo said, “nobody is going to be cheated in this election; we don’t accept cheating in our society, the religion is against cheating in our society, and even in democracy cheating cannot be accepted and that is why we are not going to allow anybody to cheat us.”
Violence broke out on Thursday in Ashtown among some supporters of the NPP and NDC when the NPP’s Parliamentary candidate for Manhyia, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh was embarking on a door-to-door campaign in the area.
According to Mr. Karbo, the NPP know about the schemes and plans of the ruling party including the deployment of military personnel into the Ashanti region.
“I believe that the Ashanti Region, being the bedrock of our party, must stand firm, the people who fought for the Ashanti Kingdom are members of our tradition and they have fought for an illustrious kingdom. One that respects human dignity, one that abhors cheating and we in the NPP will certainly abhor cheating.”
“The police must be against cheating, the Ghanaian public must be against cheating, the NDC as a party must be against cheating and we [NPP] are certainly going to be very much against cheating.”
“We are going to be vigilant like the former President Rawlings had advised and that we will protect the ballot, every inch of the ballot with our last breathe. That is how far we can go to protect our democracy and to protect our country. We will do that for the New Patriotic Party and Nana Akufo-Addo in this year’s elections.”
