Gov't got it all wrong on Nana Addo – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged Ghanaians to disregard the government statement which described the disposition of the NPP Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo at the IEA’s Presidential debate as one which was “a cause for grave concern.”

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, the Vice Chair of the NPP, Fred Oware noted that the statement was “one of these propaganda statements usually you will find coming from the NDC.”

A statement signed by a Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa accused the NPP Presidential hopeful of exhibiting “a regrettable penchant for violence and intolerance which must be of worry to all Ghanaians especially as we approach the elections.”

Government, in the statement, also condemned Nana Addo’s alleged unprovoked attack on the debate moderators immediately after the debate.

Mr. Oware however, maintained Nana Addo was composed throughout the debate saying, “he was in full control of himself and he did not react; at some point, he just laughed it off and even cracked some jokes to show that he was in full possession of his faculties and he didn’t show any anger.”

He continued, “I am glad that the whole thing was on camera and I don’t think he did anything, I didn’t see anything to suggest that he violently attacked whoever he was supposed to have attacked.”

He explained that Nana Addo spoke to one of the moderators, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah because “there was a constitutional matter which the President sought to imply that [according to] the constitution … a party should have two terms in office and he went to Kojo to explain to him that that was an erroneous impression and interpretation being given to the constitution.”
