AMA building inspector arrested for bribery
The Ghana Police Service has arrested the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s building Inspector, Christian Ababio for allegedly collecting over GHC 3,500 from a contractor working on a building on the Kwashieman, N1 Highway.
Mr. Ababio has already been implicated in the Melcom disaster for not properly doing his job.
The AMA boss Alfred Oko Vanderpuje ordered the arrest of Mr. Ababio during the Assembly’s launch of a disaster fund in the wake of the Melcom disaster.
According to Mr. Vanderpuje, Mr. Ababio has been working with the private developer who was putting up an eight-storey building without permit.
The AMA boss said, “Upon meeting the developer we found out that our own building inspector, Mr Ababio had been working with this developer and had allowed the developer to start the construction when he himself [Mr. Ababio] has become an agent in the processing of the developers application; and this we [AMA] will not tolerate.’’
‘’And he has given permission to the developer to continue the development. Mr. Ababio is the same building inspector who has been working in the Achimota area and under his nose[watch] has allowed that building to continue to lead to the destruction that we had last week,’’ he further stated.
