Melcom Building Owner Still In Police Custody

Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo, owner of the Achimota Melcom building that collapsed, killing and injuring dozens of people have been remanded in police custody.
Nana Boadu Nkansah Ayeboafo, together with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Ga West Director of Works, Mr. Carl Henry Clarke, was on Friday arrested by the Bureau of National Investigations(BNI).
They are believed to have acted negligently resulting in the collapse of the Melcom shop which has claimed the lives of 14 people.
Speaking on Peace FM’s 6pm news buletin, Lawyer for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Mr. Yaw Twumasi Ankrah said Nana Ayeboafo was charged with negligence and causing the collapse of the building.
“He has been given a provisional charge and after court we will charge him with a more detailed one…” he stated.
According to him, Mr. Carl Clarke has also been given the same charge, but however added that the contractor was left out because he was employed by the owner of the building to do the work and it was up to the him(Nana Boadu Nkansah Ayeboafo) to ensure that the right thing was done.
