Sack “insensitive” Afriyie Ankrah – NPP
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the dismissal of the deputy Minister of Local Government, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, for his recent comments on the party’s Free Senior High School policy relating it to the Melcom tragedy.
Mr. Ankrah was reported to have said on an Accra-based radio station that the NPP’s free SHS education policy is a “one-legged kwashiorkor” campaign which is crumbling like the Melcom building because it has no substance.
However, the General Secretary of the main opposition party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, has told Citi News those comments are insensitive.
“It’s rather unfortunate that the NDC will be insensitive in a matter that has shocked the country to the marrow,” the NPP chief scribe said. “I think it is something that the President would have to sack him for making such insensitive statements.”
He added that the deputy Minister is not fit to hold any position in government for making such statements and that he owes Ghanaians an apology.
“People have died, there are people who are still unaccounted for, the whole country is in mourning and shocked to the core. For him to describe our educational policy like that he owes Ghanaians, the NPP and people who lost their lives an apology. He is not fit to be a minister or even be a part of this civilised society. He must go,” Sir John said.
