Medeama still leaders of GPL while Hearts rebound

Medeama may still be on top of the Ghana Premier League, but holders Kotoko made sure the Mauve and Yellows’ lead was whittled to just a point on Sunday as the games came from across the country at the weekend.

Kofi Nti Boakye, now Kotoko captain, got his third goal of the season with a header just on the stroke of halftime. That goal was kept till fulltime as a good game at the Tarkwa Park came to an end.

Kotoko, now fourth, now have a perfect record and are unbeaten and have also made sure to beat Medeama, now just three points ahead of the the reds, since the Tarkwa side entered the league almost three years ago.

Alex Asamoah, formerly of Kotoko, as well as Emmanuel Allan got goals in each half for Aduana to win 2-0 against Amidaus in the Brong Ahafo region.

AshGold are now second after three points away were taken in Kpando, with a Francis Kwofie header the difference against Heart of Lions, where they have won their last three games.

A thrilling, thrilling game was played at the Accra Stadium and will be talked about for ages, as Hearts mounted a comeback not seen in years. Three straight failures to win ended as Edward Affum’s injury time winner pointed the Phobians in the right direction. They came from 2-1 down to win 3-2 against Real Tamale United.

The giants of Accra will play Kotoko next in a match-day 7 fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium on November 18.

At the Tema Park, ten-man Berekum Chelsea held on to draw 1-1 against Tema Youth, with both goals coming from the penalty spot. Edward Kpodo of the Blues saw red after two bookable offences.

Up and up the league table Liberty Professionals go, winning crucially at the Golden City Park against Berekum Arsenals away at the Golden City Park. It had to be Kennedy Ashia once again to take the Dansoman side to fifth.

Joshua Akoto missed a 16th minute penalty for King Faisal and the home side got punished by Francis Morten who grabbed a winner in an almost drawn game for visitors Ebusua Dwarfs with nine minutes from full time at the Baba Yara Stadium.

It was 0-0 at 90 minutes but for an Ebenezer Ofori nodded-in goal from a cross past Wa All Stars goalie Robert Dabuo on the stroke of a 4-minute time added on, New Edubiase picked all the three points at the Bekwai Park.

The final minute of injury time goal lifts Edubiase from the bottom ranks of the league table to position to 11th on 7 points.
