NPP-USA Poll Controversy: Group Challenges James Owusu Campaign Over 64% Lead Claim A dispute over campaign polling data is heating up the NPP-USA branch elections, after a group calling itself “Concerned Members of NPP-USA External Branch” accused 1st Vice Chair James Owusu of publishing false survey results. The group, in a statement circulated online this week, took aim at an article in _The Daily Statesman_ that reported Owusu leads the NPP-USA race with a 64% margin. The article attributed the poll to an entity identified as “CIER.” Three Key Claims from “Concerned Members” The signatories raised three main issues with the published poll: 1. Existence of CIER questioned: “A fact check on established databases in Ghana, and the USA shows there exist no organization known as CIER which conducts polls for Ghanaian organizations in the USA,” the statement said. 2. No member data shared:The group said it verified that NPP-USA “has not shared any member information including member names and contact information to any external organization or the CIER organization mentioned.” 3. *Chapter chairs unaware:* While the article claimed 13 of the largest NPP-USA chapters were surveyed, the group said some chairs of those chapters “had no clue of the published survey.” The statement also flagged the _Daily Statesman_ article itself, saying it was “poorly written with no methodology, assumptions stated,” and lacked author contact details or a website for CIER. Call for Retraction The “Concerned Members of NPP-USA External Branch” criticized _The Daily Statesman_ for running the story without fact-checking. “It is unfortunate that a credible media house such as the Daily Statesman did not fact check the information provided to them by Chairman James Owusu and his campaign team,” the group wrote. They urged the paper to “publish a rejoinder to retract the misinformation,” adding that “credibility is foundation of all media houses for fostering public trust.” High-Stakes NPP-USA Race The clash comes as aspirants ramp up campaigns in key chapters like New York and Massachusetts ahead of the NPP-USA external branch elections. The USA branch is one of the New Patriotic Party’s most active and influential diaspora wings. James Owusu, the incumbent 1st Vice Chair, is seeking to retain a leadership role.
