Ghana Police Service Foils Robbery Attempt, Rescues Trafficking Victims, and Cracks Down on Illegal Mining The Ghana Police Service has made significant strides in combating crime, as highlighted during a press briefing at the CID Headquarters in Accra on June 30, 2025. The Director-General of the CID, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, a seasoned law enforcement expert with extensive background in policing, legal practice, and human rights advocacy, led the briefing. Key achievements include foiling a robbery attempt on a gold buyer, rescuing victims of human trafficking linked to QNET, and arresting individuals involved in illegal mining activities. *Foiled Robbery Attempt* The police successfully foiled a planned robbery targeting a gold consignment valued at over GHC 1.3 million. Three suspects, Adams Zibo, Massawud Yussif, and Kenneth Khartey, were arrested in connection with the incident. Investigations revealed that the suspects, including the gold dealer’s driver and a man posing as the dealer’s bodyguard, had conspired to rob the victim during a scheduled gold delivery along the Accra-Akuapim-Manfe road. *Rescuing QNET Victims* The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with INTERPOL and Nigerian authorities, has rescued 76 victims of human trafficking linked to QNET. Seven suspects, all Ghanaians, were arrested in Nigeria, while two suspects from Cote D’Ivoire and Burkina Faso were arrested in Ghana. The victims were lured into the scheme with promises of lucrative jobs or recruitment into football academies. *Crackdown on Illegal Mining* In another operation, the police arrested one Ghanaian and 15 Chinese nationals engaged in illegal mining activities at Akyem Amenase in the Eastern Region. The suspects were found to be operating without permits, and efforts are underway to apprehend the mastermind behind the operation. The Ghanaian suspect, Abdul Mumin Adams, admitted to masterminding the operation, while the Chinese nationals claimed they had tourist visas and did not have permits to work in Ghana. The Ghana Police Service remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all persons and property nationwide. The public is urged to cooperate with the police and report any suspicious activities. DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor’s leadership and expertise have been instrumental in the police service’s efforts to combat crime and protect the public.
