NDC parliamentary caucus resolve to vote against 2022 Budget

The move by the Minority comes after the government proposed the introduction of E-Levy in the 2022 Budget

The Minority caucus in Parliament has resolved to vote against the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic policy of the government.

In a meeting that ended at about 11:45 am Wednesday (26 November 2021), the Minority decided not to support approving the 2022 Budget today (26 November).

The move by the Minority comes after the government proposed the introduction of E-Levy in the 2022 Budget.

Parliament is expected to vote on the 2022 Budget Friday (26 November) after concluding a debate on the government’s policy statement.

Presenting the 2022 Budget Statement in Parliament on Wednesday, the finance minister said the government has decided to place a levy on all electronic transactions to widen the tax net and rope in the informal sector.

“Electronic transactions covering mobile money payments, bank transfers, merchant payments, and inward remittances will be charged at an applicable rate of 1.75% which shall be borne by the sender except for inward remittances, which will be borne by the recipient,” Ofori-Atta said.

But the announcement has been greeted with diverse reactions from the general public.
