Youths In Komenda To Petition AG To Investigate Issues On Komenda Sugar Factory

Some irate youths in Komenda, a town in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem Municipality, will in the coming days petition the Attorney General Godfred Dame, to investigate issues surrounding the Komenda Sugar Factory, which has been in the news recently following a story aired by Joynews.

According to the youth, they believe something is not just right and that, as witnesses to the start and commissioning of the factory, they believed someone is not telling the truth about this whole Sugar Factory saga, hence the decision to petition the AG.

Speaking to Peacefmonline.com, the lead petitioner Dominic Mensah said ” We believe something is not right with the kind of information some people are putting out there and therefore want the right thing to be done. Even though we want the factory to work as soon as possible, government must investigate the issues surrounding it and bring the penetrators to book to serve as deterrent for others.

He continued by saying “Ex-president Mahama came here twice, one to inspect and the other to commission the factory in May 2016 but just after a month, it was close down for maintenance until the NPP came to power in 2017. We want government to as a matter of urgency fix the factory for the youth here to get work to do but whiles doing that, investigate this matter and put behind bars those to be found guilty of causing financial lost to the state.

He also recounted that, the factory did not produce any sugar as was reported in 2016. “It was all lies, because the factory was not complete to have produced any sugar especially when the Laboratory of the company was not set up and equipments installed, how did they produce the sugar they claim they did? “this is why we as youth of komenda want to petition the A.G to look into it for us, he said!

The Komenda Sugar Factory, which was built at a cost of $35 million from an Indian EXIM Bank facility, was inaugurated by ex President John Mahama in May 2016, but has been left idle after a few test runs, spanning over 4 years.
