Chief Justice promises equal justice for all

Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood has reiterated her commitment to provide equal justice for all irrespective of their status in society. 

The Chief Justice also expressed her determination to strengthen accountability in the Judiciary.

To this extent, she promised to work with other relevant stakeholders to improve the Justice system.

She reaffirmed her position that the Judiciary owed it a duty to be accountable to the people of Ghana in the dispensation of justice.

Her Lady, Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood was speaking at a meeting with members of the Constitutional Review and Implementation Committee in Accra.

Chairman for the Constitutional Review and Implementation Committee, Professor, E.V.O Dankwah outlined some of the recommendations captured on the report saying, “It is said that judgement should be delivered within six months after addresses and that there should not be long detention without trial.”

According to Professor Dankwah, the report also recommended that if the Chief Justice has an interest in a case at the Supreme Court, she should cede the power of empanelling those who are to hear it to the most senior Justice at the Supreme Court.
