Kpegah fails to show up for impersonation hearing
Former Supreme Court judge, Justice Francis Kpegah, failed to show up in Court for the hearing of his writ alleging impersonation by the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP).
The former Supreme Court judge claims Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is holding himself out as a lawyer even though evidence available to him proves otherwise. He has therefore accused Nana Akufo-Addo of impersonating one W.A.D Akufo-Addo.
A document cited by Citi News from the General Legal Council confirms Nana Akufo-Addo’s enrolment details on the roll of lawyers.
Citi FM’s Richard Mensah who was in court reported that David Gyentu, lawyer for Justice Kpegah explained his absence saying he had suddenly fallen ill on Tuesday morning.
According to Richard Mensah, during the submissions, Lawyer Gyentu indicated that he wanted to, with the leave of the court, argue his case saying he [Nana Addo] had not filed a conditional appearance and they are therefore unable to appear before the court. “
“The judge asked Lawyer David Gyentu to provide which chambers he was coming from because there was nothing on the writ of Justice Kpegah to indicate that he was representing him. He was asked to provide the court with his registration number on the next adjourned date. This is because the Justice said he wanted to be sure he [Gyentu] was really a lawyer. “
Justice Kpegah in an earlier statement had issued a stern warning to lawyers for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to “enter an appearance and file a defense to my claim in court and desist from using his paid agents and assigns to vilify me in the media.”
Meanwhile lawyers for Nana Addo are asking case to be struck out.
The case has been adjourned to 2nd May, 2013.
