Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a remarkable career with the Portugal national team.

The 41-year-old made the announcement on Thursday through an extended video shared on Instagram, in which he read an emotional farewell message to his supporters.

“The day has come for me to hand back the number 7 shirt of our national team,” Ronaldo said, reflecting on his long association with Portugal’s iconic jersey.

He added that although the shirt never belonged to him alone, he had enjoyed the privilege and responsibility of wearing it for 23 years.
