Road Safety Showdown:

NDC Communication Team Member Blasts Calls FOR Nationwide Transport Srike Over Traffitech Policy

An NDC communication team member, Nicheren Appiah Buadi, has strongly opposed calls for a nationwide sit-down strike by transport operators over the implementation of the government’s Traffitech road safety policy.

Reacting to concerns reportedly raised by Yaw Barima , Public Relations Officer of the True Drivers Union on Kessben Maakye show in Accra, the NDC communicator argued that although stakeholder engagement is important, Ghana cannot afford to delay measures aimed at reducing road accidents and protecting lives.
“We can’t wait for all stakeholder engagement before protecting lives and properties,” the communicator stated.

The NDC representative further argued that commercial drivers are more prone to reckless driving than other road users, stressing the need for stronger enforcement of traffic regulations.
While acknowledging drivers’ concerns about traders hijacking bus stops, the communicator maintained that such challenges require collaboration with security agencies rather than opposition to road safety interventions.

The communicator also questioned the justification for threatening a nationwide strike, insisting that such action would hurt ordinary Ghanaians more than government officials.
“If you call for a strike, it would not directly affect the President in person but the ordinary citizens you claim to work for,” he argued.

The NDC communication team member urged transport unions to embrace dialogue and cooperate with authorities in addressing road safety challenges rather than resorting to industrial action.
The big question remains: Should Ghana delay the implementation of road safety measures for further stakeholder consultations, or should saving lives take priority?
