KNUST reschedules reopening for October 15 and 17, lectures begin October 19

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi has announced new reopening dates for the 2026/2027 academic year, with fresh students expected to report on Thursday, October 15, and continuing students on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
Lectures are scheduled to commence on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The revised dates were communicated in a notice issued by the Office of the Registrar on Wednesday, October 14, following an emergency meeting of the university’s Executive Committee.
The notice, signed by Deputy Registrar in charge of General Administration, E. T. Otieku, on behalf of the Registrar, urged students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the updated arrangements.
KNUST had earlier postponed its reopening, which was initially scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, due to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a press release dated Friday, October 9, the university explained that the indefinite postponement was necessary because of the strike and its impact on the effective operation and administration of the institution.
The University of Ghana also postponed its reopening, which had been scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026, according to a report by GBC.
GAUA declared an indefinite strike on August 10, 2026, as part of its industrial action.
