Appointment of EC Deputies: The NDC wants its base to feel more comfortable that it’s not only NPP people at the EC – Kwasi Mensah

Political commentator Kwasi Mensah says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wants the appointment of Deputy Electoral Commissioners to reassure its supporters that the Electoral Commission (EC) is not dominated by individuals perceived to be affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on Kessben FM, Mr Mensah suggested that the NDC’s position on the appointments is aimed at making its political base more comfortable with the composition of the Electoral Commission.
He indicated that the issue reflects concerns about representation and confidence in the electoral management body.
The appointment of Electoral Commission deputies has generated political discussion, with questions surrounding the institution’s composition and the need to maintain public confidence in Ghana’s electoral process.
Mahama swore in Emelia Afi Agbenyo and Dr Joseph Kwaku Asamoah as Deputy Chairpersons of the EC, filling vacancies in the Commission’s senior leadership. The ceremony took place at the Jubilee House on Monday, October 12, 2026.
