NPA assures petroleum tanker drivers of action to address welfare concerns

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, has assured the Ghana National Petroleum Tankers Drivers Union (GNPTDU) of the Authority’s commitment to addressing their working conditions and welfare concerns.
Mr Tameklo gave the assurance during an emergency meeting with members of the GNPTDU following a series of strike actions by the union, which have since been suspended.
The industrial action was triggered by concerns over the deplorable condition of the Tema Oil Refinery-Kpone Road, the deteriorating state of the BOST yard where tanker drivers park their trucks, and other challenges affecting their work.
Among the issues raised at the meeting were the condition of the TOR-Kpone Road, oil loss control measures and allowances for drivers who spend long hours navigating rough roads.
Addressing the concerns, Mr Tameklo said the NPA would thoroughly examine the issues raised and work towards finding practical solutions.
He assured the drivers that the Authority would do its best to address their concerns and improve their working conditions.
For his part, the National Chairman of the GNPTDU, George Nyaunu, apologised on behalf of the union for failing to notify the NPA before embarking on the strike.
He also expressed appreciation to the NPA Chief Executive for accepting the union’s request for a meeting and giving members the opportunity to present their concerns.
