Ghana, Philippines to share expertise on labour mobility

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has met with Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and the Philippines, with Mr Ablakwa commending the Philippine government for its decision to open an embassy in Ghana later this year.

The move will mark the first time the Philippines establishes a resident diplomatic mission in Ghana, further strengthening relations between the two countries.

In a post on his X page, Mr Ablakwa said the two sides had agreed to deepen trade and investment ties, organise business forums in both countries and establish a chamber of commerce.

He added that Ghana and the Philippines would also exchange ideas and expertise on labour mobility agreements.

Mr Ablakwa further said he looked forward to hosting his Philippine counterpart in Ghana following an invitation extended to her, as both countries work to deepen cooperation.
