Former TESCON & NUGS Women's Commissioner says former Minister has lived the job from polling station to Parliament and can bring women back to win 2028
A leading women’s activist of the New Patriotic Party, Vida Opoku Agyemang popularly known as SkillsMama, has declared former Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson as the best candidate for the NPP National Women’s Organizer position.
In an article titled “Why Hon. Hawa Koomson Is The Best Bet”, Vida Opoku Agyemang said she has no doubt that Hawa Koomson is top notch for the job.
Vida Opoku Agyemang is former KNUST TESCON Treasurer, Deputy Ashanti Regional TESCON Coordinator, former NUGS Women’s Commissioner, former UN GirlUp Foundation Representative Leader in Ghana, former Board Member of St. Vincent College of Education, and National Rep for Kwabre East in the 2024 elections.
“She Came As A Mother, Not A Minister”
Recounting her first encounter, SkillsMama said in 2017 while she was TESCON KNUST Treasurer, she invited Hon. Hawa Koomson as guest speaker for a TESCON program.
“She turned the room down with her unique charisma, communication skills, leadership and a woman of purpose. She did not come as a Minister to lecture us, she came as a mother to empower us. That day is still etched in my memory,” she wrote.
From Polling Station To Parliament
According to her, Hawa Koomson is not a stranger to the NPP women’s wing:
1. Grassroots Product: She started as Polling Station Women’s Organizer, rose to Constituency Women’s Organizer and later Constituency Secretary for Awutu Senya. She knows what it means to organize women at 4am for dawn broadcast.
2. Three-Term MP: Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East from 2012-2024, holding one of the most difficult seats for NPP in Central Region and delivering it 4 consecutive times.
3. Minister of State: Minister for Special Development Initiatives (2017-2021) where she spearheaded 1 Constituency 1 Ambulance, 1 Village 1 Dam, 1 District 1 Warehouse working directly with all 275 constituencies, and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (2021-2024) managing over 1 million fisherfolks and fishmongers, mostly women.
4. Campaign Trailblazer: She has served on almost every National Campaign Team for NPP since 2012, leading women’s mobilization in Central, Greater Accra and Northern Sector.

Why Delegates Must Choose Hawa
The activist outlined five reasons why delegates must vote for Hawa Koomson:
1. Fearless and Winnable: “In Kasoa, she faced NDC’s violence, insults and propaganda and still won. If she can organize women in Awutu Senya East, she can organize women anywhere. We need a fighter, not a social media organizer.”
2. Understands All Women: She connects with three categories – the elite professional woman, the TESCON young lady, and the market woman/gari seller.
3. Welfare and Re-energizing: Her promise is to establish a Welfare Fund for women organizers from polling station to national, institute proper training, and resource the wing adequately.
4. Loyalty and Sacrifice: She has sacrificed and used her own resources to support constituency and national women’s programs for years without making noise.
5. To Secure Victory For NPP in 2028: “As she stated when she filed her nomination after meeting H.E Dr. Bawumia, the party is at a pivotal moment. We need a proven mobilizer who can deliver 60%+ of women’s votes in 2028.”
