Kojo Bonsu calls for greater youth participation in AI revolution
A new initiative aimed at equipping young Ghanaians with skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science has been launched in Zhoukou, Henan Province, China.
The China-Ghana Youth AI Talent Development Programme, launched by Ghana’s Ambassador to China, His Excellency Kojo Bonsu, seeks to train young Ghanaians to develop technology-driven solutions to challenges in key sectors of the Ghanaian economy.
The initiative, which was developed through the Ambassador’s GenZ AI Club, is being implemented in partnership with APUS Technology Co., Ltd., a Beijing-based AI technology company, and Zhoukou Normal University.
The programme will offer full scholarship opportunities to selected students in China and Ghana. Members of the Ambassador’s GenZ AI Club in China will participate in physical classes, while students based in Ghana will join the programme virtually.
Outstanding participants will also have the opportunity to undertake internships with APUS Technology Co., Ltd., giving them practical experience and exposure to the technology industry.
Ambassador Kojo Bonsu said the initiative was driven by his belief that Ghanaian youth should be equipped to participate meaningfully in the global AI revolution.
He said the programme seeks to create a network of young Ghanaian professionals capable of developing innovative solutions in areas including agriculture, healthcare, education and finance.
“We want to create a growing network of young Ghanaian professionals capable of developing solutions to challenges in agriculture, healthcare, education and finance,” he said.
The Ambassador encouraged participants to share the knowledge and skills they acquire with other students, universities and technology communities when they return to Ghana.
The initiative also represents a youth-focused approach to Ghana-China relations, using education and technology to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
Through the programme, young Ghanaians from cities such as Kumasi, Tamale and Accra will have the opportunity to gain exposure to AI training and technological development in China.
With the scholarship window now open, the initiative is expected to strengthen educational and technological collaboration between Ghana and China.
Beyond training, APUS Technology Co., Ltd. will provide outstanding students in Ghana and China with internship opportunities and potential job contracts during the one-year programme, focusing on the development of AI solutions relevant to Ghana’s economic development.
