BoG Governor Asiama confirms resignation from GoldBod Board five months ago
The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Kwasi Asiama, has disclosed that he resigned from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) about five months ago.
According to Dr Asiama, he no longer participates in meetings of the GoldBod Board.
His comments follow concerns raised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over his membership of the Board and whether holding both positions could create a conflict of interest.
The concerns were raised by former Finance Minister and Karaga Member of Parliament, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, at an NPP press briefing on September 1.
Dr Amin Adam questioned the relationship between the Bank of Ghana and GoldBod, particularly the central bank’s role in financing gold purchases and reported losses associated with the domestic gold purchase programme.
Responding to a journalist’s question during the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting on Thursday, September 24, 2026, Dr Asiama said he had already stepped down from the GoldBod Board.
“I resigned from the GoldBod Board about five months ago or so. I do not attend board meetings at the GoldBod at all,” he said.
He further explained that the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), does not require the Governor of the Bank of Ghana to personally serve on the GoldBod Board.
According to him, the law allows the Bank of Ghana to be represented on the Board by either the Governor or another official of the rank of director.
“The law that governs the activities of the GoldBod, there’s a provision there for the Bank of Ghana to be represented either by the Governor or any other official up to the rank of a director,” he said.
“It does not necessarily need the Governor to be there,” he added.
