NPP Elections Committee Doing a Very Good Job, I Have Absolute Confidence in Them – Dr. China

The incumbent National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aspiring General Secretary, Dr. Charles Dwamena, popularly known as Dr. China, has praised the Opare-Ansah-led National Elections Committee for a good job done so far in the lead-up to the October 3 National Delegates Conference.

Speaking exclusively to Kessben Online on the sidelines of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Thursday at Alisa Hotel in Accra, Dr. Dwamena said he was impressed with the level of transparency and fairness being exhibited by the committee.

“The very key things, I’m sure the General Secretary will tomorrow, God willing, put out there as the spokesperson for these meetings. The party deliberated on activities leading to the conference on 3rd October. So far, so good. Per the report the National Elections Committee submitted, the Opare-Ansah Committee has so far done a very, very good job,” he said.

“Personally, I’m quite impressed with what they’ve done. I’m quite impressed with the great lengths to which they are going to ensure transparency and fairness in the process. That’s the surest way to go. You don’t want to go into an election where the very processes will be questioned. That will make it difficult for anybody to accept the result,” he added.

Dr. Dwamena, who is one of four aspirants contesting for the General Secretary position, commended the committee and expressed confidence that the high standards would be maintained on election day.

“As a candidate in this race, I must say kudos to the Opare-Ansah-led Committee. It has been so far, so good. We hope and pray it will continue like that as we go into D-Day because that is where the crux of the matter is. As they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. You find the details there. That’s where you know whether everything is done well or not. But I have absolute confidence in them, given what they’ve demonstrated so far,” he stated.

This Election Is About the Survival of the NPP

On his message to delegates, Dr. Dwamena said the October 3 election will decide whether the NPP survives or not, as the officers to be elected will be responsible for leading the party to victory in 2028 with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer.

“Fellow patriots, we are going into an election on 3rd October, God willing. This election is about the survival of the NPP. It is very much an election that will decide whether the NPP survives or not. This election will bring about the next set of national officers, and these are the officers who will hold the fort and work very hard for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to become the next President,” he said.

“If we elect officers who are incapable of doing that and the unlikely happens, it would be a catastrophic event for the party. I believe that we have an opportunity to select the right set of people,” he added.

He urged delegates to take all incentives from aspirants but vote based on track record and competence.

“Yes, people will bring all sorts of incentives and packages. Everybody will bring it. Take it. Nobody is stopping you, myself included. But at the end of the day, after all is said and done, look at who can get the job done,” he advised.

Do an Individual Analysis of All Four Contestants

Dr. Dwamena challenged delegates to assess the track record of all four General Secretary aspirants in both government and party positions.

“I am contesting the position of General Secretary. We are four. I am number 4 on the ballot, Asiaho. All I’m saying is, before you go into the booth, analyse all four gentlemen. Let us do an individual analysis of what they’ve done when they were given positions in government and in the party. What did they do? How did what they did inure to the benefit of the party and party members?” he said.

Pointing to his own record, Dr. Dwamena said his tenure as Deputy Ambassador to China and as Director of Finance and Administration, and now as National Treasurer, has benefited the party immensely.

“When Dr. Charles Dwamena, aka Dr. China, was given a position in government as Deputy Ambassador to China, he used that position to empower a lot of party people, especially those who wanted to expand their businesses. His work there really benefited the party and party members,” he said.

“When he worked in the party as Director of Finance and Administration, and in his current capacity as National Treasurer, his work has also inured to the benefit of the party. You can point to the fact that under his stewardship as National Treasurer, he has been able to revamp the treasury and increase the party’s IGF from membership dues from less than 100 Ghana cedis a month to over 30,000 Ghana cedis a day. That is no mean achievement. He has been able to restore financial discipline and enhanced transparency and accountability like never before,” he argued.

He urged delegates to vote for his WILD Plus S agenda.

“If such a person has been able to do such a thing for the party, and the person comes out with a very clear vision, a very clear project, WILD Plus S agenda, which is about your welfare, which is about party communication, which is about research that will help us get a majority of seats, which is about discipline, you don’t need to look left, you don’t need to look right. You just look down when you get your ballot paper. Put your thumb on the ink and straight to the bottom, Asiaho. Then you vote number 4 for victory, 4 to save the party, 4 to bring on board the WILD project. After all, the elephant is a four-legged animal, and it is time to make it wild,” he concluded.
