Nana Akomea’s First Vice-Chairmanship Campaign Gains Momentum as Constituencies Rally Behind Him

The campaign of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director, Nana Akomea, for the position of First Vice Chairman is gaining momentum as constituency and regional executives rally behind his candidature ahead of the party’s internal elections.

With 24 days to the polls, Akomea has toured eight regions, including the Volta, Eastern, Central, Western, Western North and parts of the Greater Accra regions, engaging constituency delegates, regional executives, former party officials and other stakeholders.
A key message of his campaign has been the need for unity and organisational renewal as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections. Akomea and his supporters are advocating for a united party focused on returning to power behind the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Several constituency executives have reportedly pledged strong, including 100 percent, support for Akomea. Some have said they would have preferred him to contest the Chairmanship position but maintain that his decision to seek the First Vice-Chairmanship has not diminished their support.
Akomea has also been engaging TESCON executives as part of efforts to connect with the party’s youth and student structures. His campaign is further planning virtual engagements with NPP diaspora branches.
Supporters point to Akomea’s extensive experience as a former Member of Parliament, Minister of Information, Minister of Youth and Employment, and NPP National Communications Director as a major strength in the contest.
Following the recent balloting exercise, Akomea picked No. 12 out of 13 aspirants, which has since become a central rallying point for his campaign.
As the election approaches, Akomea is expected to intensify his nationwide engagements, with his campaign urging delegates to “Remember No. 12” and vote for him as First Vice Chairman.
