We Must Not Repeat Mistakes Of The Past; Unity Is Key To NDC’s 2028 Victory – Lawrence Lamptey

An aspiring Deputy Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region, Lawrence Lamptey, has called for renewed unity, solidarity and collective purpose within the party as it prepares to secure a decisive victory in the 2028 general elections.

In a public statement issued on Thursday, September 10, 2026, and titled “Unity, Solidarity and the 2028 Victory,” Mr. Lamptey said the greatest challenge confronting the NDC is the need to continuously strengthen its cohesion and sense of purpose.

According to him, a united NDC is not merely a political necessity but an essential condition for advancing the aspirations and interests of the working people of Ghana.

“We must not repeat the mistakes of the past. At this critical juncture, we must rally around the leadership of the NDC, President John Dramani Mahama, and the transformative vision of the Reset Agenda,” the statement said.

Mr. Lamptey stressed that the focus of every party member at this time must remain on delivering effective governance, strengthening the party’s internal structures and preparing the ground for victory in 2028.

He expressed concern over what he described as a deliberate attempt by sections of the opposition media to portray the NDC as divided and engulfed in antagonism.

“This narrative amounts to political and media manipulation and must not be allowed to define the image or character of our party,” he noted, adding that while internal differences must be acknowledged and responsibly addressed, the NDC remains united by a common vision, shared values and a collective commitment to Ghana’s democratic and socioeconomic transformation.

The Deputy Regional Secretary hopeful said the party cannot leave the defence of its unity and public image to chance. He called for deliberate efforts to promote dialogue, reconciliation, solidarity and a common political purpose at every level of the party, from the branch to the regional and national levels.

Outlining his own commitment, Mr. Lamptey, who describes himself as “The Strategic Scientific Socialist,” said if given the opportunity to serve as Deputy Regional Secretary for Greater Accra, he will work tirelessly to galvanise broad-based unity, strengthen internal cohesion and build the organisational capacity required to win in 2028.

“My commitment is therefore clear: to promote broad party solidarity, strengthen organisational unity and mobilise our collective energies towards one overriding objective – the victory of the NDC in 2028,” he stated.

He further touched on the future flagbearer contest of the party, urging members to respect the democratic processes of the NDC.

“The question of who ultimately emerges as the flag bearer of the NDC must be left to the democratic will of the party’s rank and file and the established processes of the party. Whoever emerges must receive the collective support of the entire party,” the statement emphasised.

Mr. Lamptey, a known grassroots organiser in the Greater Accra Region, said the NDC is at a defining moment and must demonstrate that it has learned lessons from previous electoral cycles where internal divisions weakened its front.

He argued that unity must be translated into concrete organisational work, including effective branch management, active youth and women mobilisation, and continuous engagement with constituents to sustain the confidence reposed in President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

He concluded his statement with a rallying call that has become his campaign mantra: “Unity in purpose. Strength in organisation. Victory in 2028.”

The Greater Accra Region is considered a critical battleground in Ghana’s elections, and the upcoming regional executive elections are expected to be keenly contested as aspirants position themselves to lead the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of 2028.

Mr. Lamptey is among several aspirants vying for the Deputy Regional Secretary position, a role that is central to the administrative and strategic operations of the party in the region.
