Seven illegal miners confirmed dead, one trapped in Manso Keniago pit collapse

Seven illegal miners have been confirmed dead, while one person remains trapped underground following the collapse of a mining pit at Manso Keniago in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region on Thursday, September 3.
The incident occurred at about 7 p.m. while the miners were reportedly working in the pit in search of gold.
Reports indicate that 10 people were inside the pit when it collapsed. Two of them managed to escape, while the remaining eight were trapped underground.
Rescue teams worked through the night and succeeded in retrieving the bodies of seven of the eight miners trapped beneath the debris.
Five of the deceased have reportedly been identified as residents of Manso Keniago, while the other two are said to have come from neighbouring communities.
Personnel from the Amansie South District Police Command, the Ghana National Ambulance Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and community volunteers are currently at the scene searching for the remaining miner, who is believed to be trapped beneath the collapsed pit.
Rescue efforts are ongoing.
