Accra: 11 dead, 13 injured in multiple-vehicle crash at Ofankor barrier
A multiple-vehicle crash at the Ofankor Barrier area in Accra has left 11 people dead and 13 others injured.
The accident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Thursday on the express lane of the N6 Highway, from the Pokuase side towards Achimota.
The vehicles involved were two tipper trucks, a minibus and a tricycle, popularly known as an “aboboyaa.”
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), several people were injured in the crash. Some victims were trapped inside the black minibus, which was badly mangled in the collision.
By 8:45 a.m., GNFS personnel had successfully extricated all the victims trapped inside the minibus.
The crash caused heavy morning traffic congestion in the area, prompting the police to redirect vehicles onto the outer service lane.
Fire service and police personnel were deployed to the scene to rescue victims, manage the situation and maintain law and order.
