Cassona Global Imaging Limited has been named the Best Medical Imaging Equipment Supplier of the Year at the 5th Ghana Medical & Diagnostics Excellence Awards 2026, a prestigious recognition celebrating excellence, innovation, and outstanding contributions to Ghana’s healthcare sector.

The award was presented during a grand ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Accra and acknowledged Cassona’s role in advancing diagnostic healthcare through the supply of cutting-edge medical imaging technologies, strategic investments in healthcare infrastructure, and its commitment to improving access to quality healthcare across Ghana and the West African sub-region.

Speaking as the keynote speaker, Mr. John Chigbu, Chief Executive Officer, said the recognition is more than an award for past achievements. It is an affirmation of the company’s vision and a motivation to continue pushing the boundaries of healthcare innovation.

“Receiving this award is a very satisfying feeling because it tells us we have achieved some of the objectives we set for ourselves. It validates the hard work of our team and encourages us to continue pushing forward,” he said.

The recognition comes at a time of remarkable growth for Cassona. What began as a company focused on supplying diagnostic imaging equipment has evolved into an integrated healthcare solutions provider with a growing presence across multiple African countries.

According to Mr. Chigbu, Cassona’s transformation has been driven by a desire to address broader healthcare challenges rather than simply supply equipment.

“When we started in Ghana, our focus was diagnostic imaging equipment from ultrasound systems all the way to MRI scanners. As time has evolved, we have come to realize that healthcare requires much more than equipment. Today, we are constructing diagnostic centres and operating them ourselves. Our vision is much bigger than where we started.”

That vision is built around what he describes as “the whole healthcare ecosystem.” Rather than concentrating solely on diagnostic imaging technologies, Cassona is investing across the continuum of healthcare from diagnosis and clinical services to infrastructure development, research, innovation, and patient access.

“Our goal is to cover the whole healthcare ecosystem, beginning with diagnostics, extending to operating hospitals and diagnostic centres, and ultimately contributing to research and development,” he explained.

This integrated model reflects Cassona’s long-term ambition to combine technology, infrastructure, professional expertise, financing, research, and patient-centred care into a single healthcare model.

Cassona’s expansion is supported by a strong track record of delivering healthcare technology solutions throughout Ghana. To date, the company has successfully supplied and installed more than 385 medical imaging and healthcare systems across hospitals, diagnostic centres, and healthcare institutions nationwide.

These installations include advanced ultrasound systems, digital X-ray equipment, CT scanners, MRI systems, mammography units, fluoroscopy equipment, and other diagnostic technologies designed to improve diagnostic accuracy, clinical efficiency, and patient outcomes.

“Our diagnostic centre in Labone is now complete, but it is only the first step. Our vision is to establish sixteen centres across the country, and we expect three additional centres to be completed within this year.”

These facilities are expected to increase access to high-quality diagnostic imaging services, reduce travel distances for patients, and support earlier diagnosis and treatment.

Beyond diagnostic centres, Cassona also plans to construct a modern, fully equipped hospital in Ghana. Although the location has not yet been announced, the proposed hospital will serve as both a treatment facility and a centre for clinical research, allowing technology, patient care, and scientific innovation to operate within an integrated model.

Mr. Chigbu believes that many existing laboratory reference values and medical studies do not adequately represent African populations, which can affect how healthcare decisions are made.

“The medications we use and many of the laboratory tests we undergo are based on research conducted elsewhere. African populations are often underrepresented in those studies. We believe we must conduct our own research here so that the findings truly reflect our DNA, our biology, and our healthcare realities.”

He noted that strengthening local research will improve diagnostic accuracy, enhance treatment outcomes, and contribute to evidence-based healthcare that is better suited to African patients.

Making Healthcare More Affordable

Cassona’s vision extends beyond technology and infrastructure to include healthcare financing. The company has already introduced financing solutions that enable hospitals to acquire advanced medical equipment and now plans to extend this model directly to patients.

“Healthcare should never be out of reach simply because someone cannot pay for everything at once. If a patient requires a procedure, we want to provide flexible payment options that allow them to receive treatment immediately while paying gradually over time.”

According to Mr. Chigbu, this initiative is intended to remove financial barriers that prevent people from seeking early diagnosis and treatment and to make essential diagnostic services accessible to a broader segment of the population.

As Cassona expands its healthcare operations, the company is also strengthening its clinical leadership. Cassona has appointed a Chief Medical Officer responsible for recruiting experienced medical professionals in Ghana and internationally.
